The Seboba Cultural Village and recreational park project came about after the Kasane community recognised the tourism development potential of the Seboba rapids area, including entertainment through traditional dance and lifestyle. They felt that tourists visiting Kasane are currently only offered game drives and boat cruises, which resulted in short stays and limited opportunities for local beneficiation.
Recent research has also shown that in addition to wilderness and safari experiences, growing numbers of tourists would like to experience meaningful contact with local communities. Diversifying to meet this demand could provide economic opportunities for local people, creating a more rounded and sustainable tourism product.
Management and stewardship by the local community is an important part of education and vital to the long-term survival of the resource. It will also contribute to raise pride in local heritage. The intention is to provide cultural and traditional tourism opportunities for tourists to interact with local residents while lodging in Kasane. These activities will support broader involvement of Batswana in tourism value chain development.
